The New Canaan Junior Cheerleading program features two teams designed to provide age-appropriate instruction, skill development, and performance opportunities in a fun and supportive environment.
Teams:
Rowdy Rams (Grades 1–4):
Introductory program focused on cheer fundamentals: motions, jumps, chants, and beginner stunting.
• Learn foundational skills in a positive environment
• Build confidence and teamwork
• Cheer weekly at Flag Football games
• Optional community events (Memorial Day Parade, etc.)
Schedule: Fridays 4:00 PM | Saturdays partnered with New Canaan Flag Football
Rising Rams (Grades 5–8):
Intermediate program focused on technique, routines, and mid-level stunting.
• Learn and perform sideline + halftime routines
• Continue developing strength, coordination, and execution
• Cheer at Youth Football games
• Participate in Jamboree, Youth Night, and events
Schedule: Fridays 5:00 PM | Game Days: Saturdays New Canaan Flag Football or Sundays w/ New Canaan Youth Football
Volunteers Needed: We rely on volunteers to support the program: Assistant Coaches (experience preferred): • Assist with practices and instruction • Help lead games and follow weekly plans • Support skill development and team culture Team Parents (no experience needed): • Help supervise at practices/games (rotation) • Assist with logistics and player support
Meet the Coaches:
Ashley McNeal:
Ashley brings a strong background in cheer and dance, with 15 years of dance experience and 6 years of sideline cheer. She cheered through high school and was a member of the Pom Squad at The University of Texas at Austin.
Laura Tucker:
Laura cheered in high school in Upstate New York as a flyer for football and basketball. She later coached the Mighty Mites Bethlehem Pop Warner team, focusing on chants, jumps, motions, and choreography. For volunteer interest or any questions, please email ncjrcheerleading@gmail.com
